Thomas William Webb was born in 1895 in Westley Waterless, (Newmarket Q1-1895 3B:526), baptised St Mary's Westley Waterless on 15th April 1895, son of William and Kate WEBB (née FINCH).

1901 census...Aged 5, he was at 56 Westley Waterless with his father William WEBB [37] horse keeper on farm; his mother Kate [39]; sisters Minnie E.E.[13], Gertrude [12] and Dorothy [11 months] and brothers Frank [7] and Herbert [4]. All were born in Westley Waterless except his mother who was born in Stetchworth.

1911 census...Aged 15, cowman on farm, he was at 56 Westley Waterless with his parents, sisters Gertrude and Dorothy, brothers Frank and Herbert (both farm labourers) and cousin Sidney WEBB [26] born Dullingham). Two of the nine children had died.


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds. At his medical on 5th June 1916 he was 5 feet 4.5 inches tall (163.8 cm), weighed 126 lbs (57.2 kg), chest 36.5" to 39" (92.7 to 99.1 cm). He gave his age as 21 years 9 months, occupation as baker and next of kin his father William of 56 Flint Cottages, Westley Waterless.
Called up on 20th June 1916 and posted to the 3rd Battalion, The Buffs. Sent to France, via Folkstone on 8th November 1916 he joined the 7th Battalion, The Buffs and was killed 25 days later. (143 days military service).

His personal effects consisted only of one disc, which his father received on 26th February 1918. During his service his mother received separation pay of 2/5 plus an allotment from his pay of 7d, a total of 3/= a week (15p).
On completing forms on 6th September 1919, sister Minnie declared his parents were alive, at 56 Westley Waterless, where she was living still, Brother Herbert was still at home, his brother Frank was with the Australian Imperial Forces. Sister Lilly May THIPPEY was at 33 Beacon Tree Heath, Romford, sister Gertrude Agnes HOLLAND was in Cheveley and sister Dorothy Mabel was at Hare Park.
